Our fathers' had such a wonderful friendship starting at Cortland until we have now lost them both. Frank and I were so happy to see David and Coach this summer, Frank had a private talk with him and I was able to hug him! I was coming to visit my parents once as Coach was leaving and I had the honor of playing golf with them, it was so fun and I had an opportunity to see this friendship that had developed over my whole life and throughout theirs, it was amazing. Coach was a kind thoughtful man, and treated all with respect. We were so fortunate to have had them both for so long in our lives and your children and grandchildren are richer for having him in theirs. Our thoughts are with you all as we remember him in so many ways over the years, and hope your memories make you smile as ours have.
Frank, Gina, and Karen Kane

This past Monday I lost a true friend and most important mentor in my life. He was a remarkable man and outstanding coach and human being. I can honestly say that everything I brought to my own coaching career about how to detail a practice plan to emphasize both generally needed skills and what is a specifically demonstrated need or skill I learned from him functioning as his assistant for 10 years. I also learned from him how to create situations in practice to create the team as a whole, and how to create a "band of brothers" through character building activities in practice. Any success I may have had as a coach to young people I owe directly to his influence, and I am proud to admit it. I am deeply saddened by his passing. Just a remarkable human being, The world around him was enriched by by him being in it. RIP Coach J.

Coach Jacowski was the ultimate wrestling coach, and I was just another kid with no physical skills to speak of (unless I was riding a horse) in the summer before ninth grade. I spent my time on Dad’s horse farm, riding and giving horseback riding lessons. When I received my school schedule for the year, my nervousness went into overdrive. This man…famous in my world…would be my coach for gym class. I believed I had no skills. I certainly couldn’t wrestle. I thought he would want nothing to do with me. Our first day, he gave the whole class a speech on our own self worth. Coach told us that we all had something to contribute; we all had value, and that we all would be a part of the class. Better yet, throughout the year he would pull me aside periodically to ask how my brothers Joe, Dan and Tim were, or how I was doing. Coach did more for my self esteem than any other teacher. I no longer dreaded gym class because of his teaching and role modeling. He helped me to fit in. He was great man and to this day, I truly appreciate him and all that he did for me. May he rest in peace.

Coach Jackowski chaperoned my class Senior trip on which I was blessed to receive some of his wise advice! Later he became one of my two very best customers at the “Fitness Corner” in South Jeff Plaza. He often talked about how much he enjoyed his winter fishing trips in Mexico. How I do wish we’d stayed in touch occasionally after that business closed. Always Interesting and interested. Condolences to Diane & family … RIP coach …

So many of us were able to have had the opportunity to be coached by one of the greatest . He made all of us a better man . He instilled in us what we needed to do to walk on the mat as an individual, and what it meant to work as a team. Some of the best memories of high school , going down to the wrestling room for practice. So glad to have had conversations with him at our reunion. You will be deeply missed

I was just thinking of him a week ago as I think I went by a house he lived in several years ago. I believe he also refinished my father's rifle back in the late '80s or '90s which I now have. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy Dianne. Coach was awesome. He took me on my first plane ride in a fiberglass cloth plane he built. There was turbulence that he kept apologizing for but just seemed like we were on the lake to me. A fond lifelong memory of a wonderful, kind person.

What a beautiful man. I was certainly no athlete, so I never had the privilege of being one of his students, but I had so much respect for him. He was always kind and passionate about his program. He undoubtedly left his athletes with a lasting appreciation of his dedication and work ethic. He will be missed.

Coach was an amazing man, he has been a Roll model to me since since the day I met him. He was the greatest coach to me and so many others, there were so many things said over the years, but one will always be remembered, it’s not always about strength or skill, but what is inside you that matters, your heart! There isn’t a single day that goes buy that I can’t apply what he had said to me! He made me the man I am today, I will greatly respect and miss him

I’ve had many coaches over my athletic career, but he was the best. Of course he was great at teaching his athletes how to wrestle but more importantly he taught us how to be good people. You couldn’t be around him day after day and not be influenced by how he conducted himself as a man. In all situations he was an example to us young men of how to carry ourselves. My brother was right when he said we were blessed to have come along during his tenure. Thanks for everything Coach. We’ll all miss you.

A great man, An outstanding coach and an exemplary human being. From my earliest memories of summer recreation - he taught us to swim at Westcott's Beach - to the incredibly successful wrestling program at South Jeff (where I understand he was one tough son of a gun) - we held him in the highest respect. He sure was good to us kids. So sorry to lose yet another great man.

Sending heartfelt sympathy to Diane & family. He will be remembered for his soft-spoken ways. He was always thought of as a “hunk” by us girls in high school!
His memory will continue to walk the halls at South Jeff. We recently found a picture which we put names to so it can be kept forever at the Historical Association in Adams.
