To all the Costello's that made it home for the funeral, I am sorry I could not make it. Though it won't make up for it, I'll share a little story about Paul.
I'm one of Paul's 30'ish nieces/nephews on the Costello side, son of Ed. Paul & Eileen were at our house (back in the Oneida days) for a visit. It may have been a holiday, like Easter. It was probably 34/35/36 years ago (I'm now 43). We were outside, it was warm and sunny. Paul was sitting in a folding lawn chair playing with a plastic bag filled with something unfamiliar to me as a young boy. He poked his claw in that baggie and pulled out the matter and stuck it in his mouth. I asked, "Uncle Paul, what is that?"
"It's tobacco, want some?"
"Sure"
"Here ya go"
I realized years later that Uncle Paul was trying to teach me a lesson, one that'd I was SUPPOSED to regret. He was shocked I think when I put it in my mouth just as he did, not swallowing, and continued to play around the yard, spitting every minute or so like a big boy. Uncle Paul was probably thinking to himself, "Whoops!"
He should have know that we Costello's can tolerate just about anything that is not good for us.
Will miss you Uncle Paul.
