My late parents Ana Lay Shyu and Tsu Pin Shyu spoke of Jack Monson and the Monson family all our lives - and my brother and I learned when we were old enough that the Monsons profoundly changed my parents' lives and made them feel so welcome in their arrival to Syracuse University in the US in the 1960's, as my parents were strangers in a strange land, students and immigrants who would decide to settle in the US until the end of their lives, only visiting their homelands of East Timor and Taiwan a handful of times after their time at Syracuse. I think of all the people that Jack mentored, the lives that the Monsons changed, and the kindness that they showered upon so many students and families, who had to leave their families behind in their quest to start a new life for their future families in the US. This image of Jack Monson greeting my parents at their wedding comes from precious footage of them in 1970. I loved hearing from Mom and Dad about the Monsons and they felt indebted to Jack all these years - my brother and I were blessed to have gotten to visit Jack and Barbara in 2022, and to see his basement workshop and the delight that he took in showing us all of his projects. My brother and I were in awe of his vigor and excitement at 92. We send our blessings to the entire Monson family as we honor such a great, great man, who poured such love and generosity into the world. We love you all!

Jack was to many of us a father figure, and he will live forever in our hearts. Now he rests in the shadow of the almighty. A Blessing for Jack Monson. God made us all family We need each other. We love each other. We forgive each other. We work together. We play together. We pray together. Together we are God's word. Together we get close to Christ. Together we love the entire human race. Together we wait for Haven. Here is our hope and ideals. Help us reach them, oh God, through Jesus Christ Our Lord . Amen.

Jack Monson was like a second dad to me growing up, and the four kids were my sisters and brother. So many wonderful memories. I look forward to the day when we are all Home and together as family once again.

I was so sad to hear of Uncle Jack's death. My condolences go out to all of the Monson family. He loved God & his family. We're blessed to know he's with his Savior in heaven now. He will be missed. I'm praying for comfort for Aunt Barbara & the Monson family.

So sorry to see this that Jack is with the Lord. Jack was a very loving man that you see from the just talking to him. It was such a delight to see how he catered to Barbara. I will miss seeing them when I come back to NY. Hadn't see them in years, but kept in contact with Marilyn and Betsy. Will be praying for all of your family as you go through this time of great memories. May the Lord comfort all of you with His great love, strength, wisdom and all that you need during this time. What a blessing to have been taking care of Mr. Jack Monson his final years. The Lord truly brought us together. The way Christ radiated from you even through your difficult times was proof that the Lord lived within you. Jack was an amazing person! It has been my privilege and honor to know him. He emulated Christ through his life and interaction with others. He was so kind and generous. My greatest memory is when he helped my children make a wooden cutting board, which we will cherish forever! Looking forward to seeing you on the on the other shore, Jack!
