Hello, Sylvia: this is Jorge Romeu; you may remember I worked with Dan in the Math Department for many years, until I retired. He was always a gentleman and a professional. He will be missed. He is in a better place, now. Keep safe/jorge.

I greatly admired Dan as a teacher and his commitment to our students. On numerous occasions, I heard students speak to his patience in explaining mathematical equations, statistics, and probability theory. Always his willingness to meet with them after class and encouraging them to return to his office for additional assistance. He was a dedicated and admired colleague. Erik Bitterbaum

Dearest Cathy and family,
I remember your Mom and Dad coming for tea at our home in Bedford on one of their visits.
It was so nice to meet them, such kind and gentle folks. May you have many great memories of your Dad to reflect on at this sad time. May he rest in Peace. God Bless you and your family.
Love and hugs,
Barbara Brown

I took numerical analysis I and II from Professor Driscoll at SUNY Cortland as part of my math major there in the 1970s. I remember him as an excellent instructor. He taught the material effectively and expected the necessary rigor, but at the same time was patient, personable, and accessible. He and this culture were part of a math department at SUNY Cortland that played a profound role in this first-gen's college student's career evolution. In contact with him years later, he headed the math department and maintained this culture as the key faculty members from my era retired. Certainly a significant part of a person's legacy is the people they shaped in their work and life. I am grateful to Professor Driscoll in doing that for me at SUNY Cortland. And I'm sure that many, many of his former students would say the same. Best wishes to the family for a life very well-lived.

We both took Statistics from Dr. Driscoll at SU while doing doctoral coursework in the early 1980’s, and have often spoken of how much we enjoyed his classes. Most students were apprehensive about taking Statistics, but Dr. Driscoll not only explained concepts well but patiently sought alternate ways to clarify any point that a student was struggling to grasp- and he did do with whimsical examples which lightened our spirits. We hope your family finds comfort in the many lovely memories you must have of him. - Natalie and Jed Gordon
