Obituary of Peter Davis

Peter Davis, of Albany Street in Cazenovia died Nov. 29 at University Hospital in Syracuse. He was 69.
Mr. Davis, son of the late, William and Mary Davis, was born in Chicago but lived most of his life in Cazenovia. He graduated from the Darrow School in New Lebanon, New York, and attended Colgate University in Hamilton and Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Prior to his move into an apartment on Albany Street, Mr. Davis lived on Rippleton Road on the property known as Fernwood. That early 19th century house is now a bed and breakfast. Mr. Davis worked in the family business, Cazenovia Lumber and Oil for more than 30 years. In later years, he worked for Chase Pitkin in DeWitt and Lowe's in Oneida. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. Mr. Davis was a great reader and an avid sports fan, following the New York Giants and Boston Red Sox with particular interest. For more than 20 years, he looked forward to his annual visit to the Hamptons on Long Island, where he could spend time on the beach and swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
Mr. Davis is survived by a sister, Debbie Campbell of Nelson; a niece, Torrey Elizabeth Lansing; a nephew, William Scott Davis; seven great-nieces and- nephews along with a number of devoted friends.
A memorial reception will be held 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Fernwood, 4023 Rippleton Rd., Cazenovia. Contributions in memory of Mr. Davis may be made to Cazenovia Public Library, 100 Albany St., Cazenovia, NY 13035 or to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, 6606 Kinne Rd., DeWitt, NY 13214.
