Obituary of John R. Naylor

John R. Naylor, 63, of New Hartford, formerly of Cazenovia passed away unexpectedly Saturday at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica. He was born in Syracuse, a son to James and Barbara Naylor and grew up in Cazenovia. He graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1972 where he was a star running back on their football team. John attended the University of Idaho where he studied Ichthyology. He was a NYS Corrections Officer for over 25 years and retired from Camp Georgetown Correctional Facility in 2010. John was an avid skier, collected arrowheads, enjoyed reminiscing about his high school football days, was well known throughout the fish hatchery industry and had owned Naylor Trout Hatchery.
He was predeceased by his father, James E. Naylor; by his wife, Victoria Lee Naylor, who died February 25, 1997 and by his beloved cat, Muffin.
John is survived by his children, Jeremy (Diana) Beresovoy of Margate, FL, Kirsten (Darius) Neerings of Charlotte, NC, Joshua (Dana) Naylor of Mableton, GA and Kimberley (Joseph) Naylor of Charlotte, NC; his fiancé, Debra Trinkaus of New Hartford; his mother, Barbara Cross Naylor of Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Judith Hicks of AL; four brothers, Peter Naylor of NC, James (Ruth) Naylor, Jr. of NC, Thomas Naylor of AL and Richard (Pat) Naylor of NC; three grandchildren, Grayson, Silas and Jocelyn; as well as several nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his feline companions, Spunky, Olly, Chloe, Marshawn and Ben.
Memorial services are 4 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Eastern Hills Bible Church, 8277 Cazenovia Rd., Manlius, NY 13104. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the church prior to the services.
