Obituary of Thomas "Tod" Nee

Thomas “Tod” Nee, 65, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Saturday morning. Tod was born in Boston, Massachusetts a son of the late, George H. and Joan Lavelle Nee and lived most of his life in Syracuse. He graduated from Nottingham High School in 1969 and Syracuse University in 1975. Tod earned his Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Colorado in 1980. Tod was an outgoing person always putting others before himself which made his career as a Mental Health Counselor meaningful with those he encountered. He worked at the Newland Center for Adult Learning and Literacy where he taught people to read and earn their G.E.D.’s. Tod also worked at AccessCNY as a Peer-Recovery Specialist and worked through Sunrise to help people with mental health issues. He enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to San Diego. Tod was known for his ball caps and enjoyed watching sports-namely the NY Giants and Syracuse University sports. He was a member of the Pompey Community Church.
Tod is survived by his lifetime love, Wendy Volpe of Syracuse; two brothers, George Nee of Cranston, RI and Stephen Nee of Manlius; dear friends, Michael Volpe of FL., Glenn Volpe of Millis, MA and Richard Volpe of Mount Kisco, NY; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Nuba.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Pompey Community Church, 2555 Berwyn Rd., Lafayette with burial to follow in Pompey Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tod’s memory may be made to the Phyllis Newland Memorial Adult Literacy Fund, payable to the Newland Center, 1443 East Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210.
