Obituary of Capt. Gabriel O. Kinney III, USCG Ret.

Capt. Gabriel O. Kinney III, USCG Ret., 67, of Erieville, died unexpectedly on Thursday. He was born in Washington D.C. to the late Gabriel and Evelyn Kinney, Jr. Gabriel was a graduate of Eisenhower College and the U.S. Coast Guard Officer Candidate School. While serving with the U.S. Coast Guard for 28 years, his career spanned from Iwo Jima, Japan to Washington D.C., where he retired in July of 2001 as the Chief of Search and Rescue for the US Coast Guard. Gabriel was a member and past president of the Association for Rescue at Sea and a member of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. His favorite pastimes were cooking, fishing and working at Kinney Drugs in Cazenovia where he enjoyed helping customers.
Gabriel is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carla; their children, Allyson M. Kinney of Erieville, Erin P. Kinney of Houston, TX and Victoria E (Ralph Willsey) Kinney of Liverpool and by his brother, G. Patrick (Megan) Kinney of Bethesda, MD.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 in the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia. Burial with full military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.
