Obituary of Marian Sears

Marian Sears, DVM, 57, of Cazenovia, passed away at home Tuesday, November 3, 2020. She was born November 8, 1962 in Oneida to John and Anne Teitsch. Marian received her Master’s degree in Parasitology from Montana State University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. While attending college, Marian ran Cross Country and Track, she was a 2 time All American in 1980 and 1981. She was the Team MVP, Captain and a NJCAA Regional Champion in Track and Cross Country. Marian was an Olympic Marathon Qualifier in 1984, 1988 and 1990. She was the NCAA 5,000 Meters Champion in 1983.
Marian operated a mixed private practice veterinary service in Cazenovia since 1991 caring for all animals large and small. She enjoyed her morning runs with her dogs and occasionally with her husband and sister. Marian and her husband, R.E. would train horses for reining competitions throughout the country. She was dedicated to helping the CNY Cat Coalition by offering her services to spay and neuter cats. In her free time, Marian enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.
Marian is survived by her husband of 21 years, R.E. Sears; her siblings, Jackie (Andrew Donoho) O’Keefe, Bunny Bresemann, Mike (Mona Brooks) Teitsch, Margy (Bill Gray) Mulvey and Sue (Claude) Braun; her father and mother-in-law, Dick and Carol Sears; her sisters-in-law, Jean Sears Haller, Kala Sears Maguire, and Mara Sears as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Jeff Teitsch and by her sister, Terry Teitsch.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Rd., Cazenovia. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
