We bought the Arman cottage from Carol in 2006, and have relished it ever since. Carol and I, and then through Cindy, kept in touch.
I always shared with Carol, and now Cindy, how much we enjoyed what Carol had started more than thirty years earlier on Upper Rideau Lake in Ontario — the comfort of the cottage itself, with shag carpets and cozy furniture; the beauty of the clean lake; the organization of everything in just the right place; the quality of every cottage-part, every dish, every towel; the utility of design right down to the tool board, and pin board; the bright and healthy gardens; and the warmth of her spirit in her decor elements.
I believe the cottage epitomized Carol — warm, organized, thorough, competent, complete, and bright and fun.
We kept Carol’s spirit alive at the cottage — it was so good and strong. As was she. We still have her hand written notes on how to clean the coffee pot, and start the pump. All the bits of Carol that are still there serve as a testament to the good life she built for Bill and her girls at the cottage. The good life she passed on to me and my family.
We are grateful to Carol for her gifts to us, and her presence in this world. We will remember her always, and especially as we enjoy our times at the Arman cottage. While we mourn her loss, we are glad that she can now rest. We’ll take the watch at the lake from here.

I was a good bridge friend of Carol's and knew her quite a few years in Stuart,FL. She was a great gal and good friend. In fact, when I visited Syracuse on a bridge venture, she invited me to stay at her condo. While there we played at a tournament. I was always grateful to her for this experience and her hospitality. Her family and friends have my deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences. She will be missed by the bridge community in Stuart. Carol Helderlein
