Reading through the most recent issue of the SUNY Oswego Alumni magazine today, I sadly learned of Don’s passing. I first met Don in 1972 and during my two years as a colleague at CCS, we had many chats in the “men’s” smoking room/driver ed office. Always the gentleman, he truly loved his job and his students. Simply a great guy! My thoughts and prayers to Don’s family.

We met Don almost twenty years ago, when he painted the back of our house shortly after we moved to Cazenovia. He did a great job -- but more, was such a wonderful person to be around. Kind, thoughtful, always glad to see you...and just seeing him around the village, for all the years since, was such an uplifting experience. On a bench, in the diner, wherever it was, you could always stop and chat, ask about things, and just being with him with so warm and inviting. We envy the students and athletes who were privileged to know this teacher and coach when they were growing up. What a fine human being, who enriched the people around him and made our village such a better place by his presence. He will be missed, and his memory will be cherished. I had Mr. Cliffe in what I think was last year as a teacher, right before he retired. At the time I helped my grandfather sell furniture he built at craft shows. Mr. Cliffe took a real interest in what I was had been up to, we built a clothes drying rack and came up with a plan to advertise it at craft shows which I did the next summer. Looking back, having a teacher take the time to really think through something you are up to and then show the faith in you to help you pursue it is something special. I am very thankful for my time as his student.

Mr. Cliff was my shop teacher and freshman football coach. Great man! Loved by all. He was always caring and kind to all. I remember him explaining how to work with wood and I still like working with wood thanks to him. Many fond memories. My condolences to his family. Rich Naylor

My condolences to Don's family. In shop class at Caz High School in the 1970's. "Mr. Cliff" inspired me to go into construction. I became a cabinetmaker and then built many large houses. His great demeanor and encouragement go unmatched.
