Or deepest Condolences. Our friendship with Fred, and Frank(Henward) at Dewitt Sports started with skis, bikes, a canoe from these great pals, but extended through, theirs & our, children over the years. I fondly recalled Fred & Frank, personally delivering our old Raleigh bikes, after a meticulous rebuild, only to shortly deliver 2 Brand New quality Fugi trail bikes, that are still in use by our grandchildren. To Donna, Hilary, F.K., we will long remember Fred for his, and your, friendship over the years. God Bless.

I don't remember the time frame when I first entered into DeWitt Sports to check out the equipment both winter and summer (late '60's-'70's), but Fred was always there to say "Hi, can I help you?". There were times I did utilize his expertise on just about any physical activity. He and his staff were there to insure the customer got questions answered and pointed into the right direction. I actually did some volunteer moving stuff around some days just to help out. It was a surprise when the shop closed down, but time moves on.

I can truly say that Fred launched me into a 30+ year career in the ski industry - working in hardgoods, right as he taught me when I was 16 and working at DeWitt Sports. I always enjoyed stopping into the store when I was back in town, or running into him along Ridge Road. I'll forever be thankful for the opportunities he opened up for me.

My fondness memory of Fred was his absolute refusal to leave the dance floor at his daughter's wedding party. He danced the whole night. Wish I had chance to know him better.

Great memories of Fred including my son Mark who remembers Fred's advice on the "right skis" for him.
Also remember skiing with Freddie at Mad River. He was amazing.
Best,
Bruce Sammut
