Wife and Mother, Nurse and Author loses battle with Alzheimer's
Susan (Emily) Taylor Dublin, 58, passed away Wednesday at her home, losing her 7 year battle with Alzheimer's disease, a battle she faced bravely, knowing victory was forever beyond her grasp.
Sue was born at Memorial Hospital in 1955 to Mary (Allen) Taylor and Culver Dawson Taylor. Growing up, Sue attended Jamesville-Dewitt Schools, even sharing a kindergarten class with her eventual husband Gary. Summers away from JD were always spent at "the cottage" in Henderson Harbor, NY on the shores of Lake Ontario and in her pride and joy "The Bomb" a 1953 Century runabout.
Upon graduating from Jamesville-Dewitt High School in 1973, Sue attended and graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, a profession her mother Mary worked in for many years. Sue made many lifelong friends at Hartwick, among them her Gamma Phi Delta sorority sisters.
Sue immediately went to work at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital before later working for Madison County Public Health, Hill Haven Nursing Home, Internist Associates and for many years at Lyndon Pediatrics in Fayetteville.
Forced in 2008 by this disease to give up the career she loved, Sue dedicated herself to helping others similarly afflicted. She volunteered with the Alzheimer's Association advocating for their cause on television, at speaking events and even before NYS Legislators. This advocacy culminated in 2013 when Sue joined with P.J. Kimmerly and Marjorie Allen to co-author "A Look Inside Alzheimer's: I Know Who I Am Today, But What About Tomorrow"
Sue's family always remained her most important priority. Sue married Gary Dublin in 1977 and they went on to have three children, Benjamin, Kaitlin and Elizabeth. Over their years growing up, Sue and her family enjoyed spending time together, particularly when on family trips, Henderson Harbor; Hilton Head Island, SC; and Pawley's Island, SC were among their favorites.
In recent years, Sue and Gary were blessed with the births of four grandchildren, Abigail, Jackson, Patrick and Taylor. Even in the advanced stages of this disease, Sue's face lit up when her grandchildren came into the room.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 36 years Gary Dublin; her children Benjamin (Lesley) of Manlius, Kaitlin (Brian) of Clay and Elizabeth of Clay; her grandchildren, Abigail and Patrick of Manlius, Jackson and Taylor of Clay and her step grandson Bradley of East Syracuse; her brother Doug Taylor (Kathy) of Worcester, Massachusetts; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Culver Dawson Taylor.
A funeral in celebration of Sue's life will be held on Sunday, July 13th at Eastern Hills Bible Church at 5pm. The family will receive from 3-4:45pm at the church.
Contributions in Sue's honor may be made to Eastern Hills Bible Church, or the Humane Association of CNY.
