When I heard the news of Bob from family my soul emptied and I turned white as
a ghost inside and out and I feel their was a couple of last things I should have
talked to Bob about that I left unsaid and I feel much the same about Bob and Karol's
wonderful, great, son Andrew Thomas "Drew" Toole. Karol is a great mother to Thomas, as she was to Drew also. Karol was a great wife to Bob. I called Andrew daily from Van Duyn Nursing Home next to Community Hospital Upstate West Campus "Andrew proud of you, keep up the good work. uncle john." "Andrew are you mad at me for calling you @ 3am no uncle john i am not mad at you. 8 am daily
i called Andrew even the day he met the the Lord.

Dear Karol and family,
It has taken me by surprise to learn of Bob's passing and even longer to respond to you and offer you my heartfelt condolences for your loss. We sat next to each other in many vet school classes and shared many laughs. We also enjoyed fighting over who got to the sports section in the library first in between classes and traded elbows playing basketball down campus on Sundays. It seems like only yesterday we were talking about how the Yankees were playing .He would have really looked forward to this season! He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to share. Kyle and I even got to take Dr. Fox's large animal medicine oral exam together with Bob .I will always remember and cherish my time getting to know and love the big fella. Even when he knocked the basketball backboard on my head behind anatomy in the parking lot. So many great memories. God bless and be strong in his absence.
Sincerely,
Ken Byman ,DVM Class 1989

Dear Toole Family:
I was shocked to hear of Bob's death and my sympathy is extended to all of you. Bob was one of the first students I had extensive contact with after my arrival at Cornell in 1988, mainly because of his interest in reproduction and embryo transfer. Because of those shared interests, and because he stayed in the Upstate NY region, I remained in contact with him. He even helped us many years later in a research project. He was a wonderful colleague, calm, unassuming and utterly dependable. I will miss him.
Kind regards,
Rob Gilbert

Bob was a fraternity brother when I was at Alpha Zeta. He was very dedicated and hard working toward his goal of becoming a veterinarian. I am so glad he was able to accomplish that. Bob was always well liked. Even though he may have been quiet/shy at the beginning he was a wonderful, contributing member of the fraternity. He was a wonderful person and I truly enjoyed our friendship while at Cornell. I was very saddened to hear of your loss and my thoughts and prayers to out to you and all family members. I first crossed paths with Bob in the fall of 1978 when we were both freshmen at Cornell University. Bob was a little bigger than the rest of us and a little older than the rest of us, but you could tell by his determination and focus that he was a pre-vet. As I got to know Bob, I discovered that he was also a very kind and gentle person. Our paths crossed again when in the spring of 1979 I joined Alpha Zeta fraternity. Bob had already joined Alpha Zeta in the fall of 1978. A part of our pledge program for the fraternity included the selection of a big brother. The choice for me was obvious, and I chose Bob as my big brother. The plan was for the big brother and little brother to room together in the fraternity house the following year. However, Bob took a job at the Cornell Teaching and Research Center, located quite a distance from campus, that required him to live there the following year, so we did not have the opportunity to room together. Over our remaining years at Cornell, our paths would cross on campus frequently as we both took many common courses. In our senior year, Bob applied to vet school, but unfortunately was not accepted. But Bob was prepared and had applied and was accepted into a master's program at Virginia Tech, a path which ultimately led him to vet school. However, before he left for Virginia Tech, there was something else he had to do. Something equally important to him as vet school. I remember a day in the spring of our senior year when Bob appeared at the fraternity house one Friday afternoon and I could sense his excitement. He called me into the kitchen to show me something. There in the kitchen was a huge sheet cake. Now if I had a huge sheet cake, the last place I would bring it was to the fraternity house on a Friday afternoon. But Bob was especially proud of this cake and wanted to show it to everyone. Written on the face of the cake was "Karol will you marry me", and Bob was planning on using the cake to "pop the question" later that evening. Bob then asked me what I thought. My response was "Gee Bob, if I come along can I have a piece?" Well, I never did get a piece of the cake, but we all know how successful this plan worked out.
Over the years I have been fortunate to remain connected to Bob and Karol. My family and I always looked forward to attending their 4th of July BBQ and on occasion dinners together in between. Some years the day at their camp was the only summer vacation I had, and it always meant a lot to be able to attend.
I was always very proud of Bob for how he overcame obstacles, persevered and ended up where he wanted to be. His determination and faith served him well in this life. It will serve him even further in the next life. God bless you Bob Toole.

Karol and family,
My heartfelt sympathy for you all - I feel that you and we and the world have lost a really good man, but God has won the victory, we know, over death. And I thank the Lord that Bob's name is in the book of life! I have good memories of Bob from Cazenovia High School and we and I shared progress and lack of it in homework and tests. He was always honest and very smart, but never proud. Though we didn't keep in touch after graduation, I was not surprised at the wonderful contributions he made to mankind, and the Lord's work which we'll hear more about when we are together someday. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus though all this - He is the way, the truth and the life!
All God's Peace and Blessings to you,
Bud Studor - Caz HS '72
